Hi and welcome to the Vic Uni Secondary College relief teacher podcast.
We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!
So let’s get started!
Classes at Vic Uni commence at 8.50 – yes 8.50 – so it is highly recommended you arrive at the office no later than 8.30.
Smart casual is the school dress code.
You are welcome to use the school car park on Billingham Road. Access is via a boom gate. The code for access is 4977#. That is 4977#.
On arrival you will need to head to the main office, sign-in, and ask for the daily organiser, Julie Foley. Julie will give you a brief induction – staffroom, toilets etc and hand you
- a CRT pack,
- an iPad, and
- a master key if required.
The iPad is crucial for your work on the day. It will allow you to access the Compass program where you will find
- the prescribed work for the students in your care and
- the attendance rolls for each class.
Be mindful of how important this is and make sure you arrive in time for this induction. Also, if you have any queries about accessing Compass or marking the roll don’t be afraid to ask before the day begins. Julie will be more than happy to help and is likely to provide a hard copy of your timetable as well.
The ipad will also have information for you on
- Session times and
- Yard duty
Again, make sure you know how to access this information.
You CRT pack will contain information on
- Managing student behaviour
- Students with medical conditions
- Students with a behavioural management plan as well as a
- Map of the school.
Please familiarize yourself with these details as a priority.
Please implement the lessons outlined for each class and make sure you follow-up on the students’ work. Correct it where required and if appropriate, collect it and leave it with Julie for the teacher.
And please note, most classes commence with a ten-minute reading session for all students. Please ask Julie about this initiative when you arrive.
Students at our school do have access to digital resources such as laptops and Ipads. Just remember these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason.
You will find the students at Vic Uni keen to work, helpful and enthusiastic. But occasionally behavioural issue may arrive. Make sure you are aware of the behaviour management process outlined in the CRT pack. This will help in managing any behavioural issues. And please note, if any student needs to leave the room for whatever reason you must sign their diary and they are only allowed to leave the room on their own, not in a group. If you are unsure of these arrangements please ask. You will find the staff really helpful.
Information on yard duty will be available on Compass but you will need to head to the staffroom to collect a Hi Viz vest. Again, ask if you are unsure please ask and please move promptly to your designated area.
Classes are dismissed just after 3pm on all days except Wednesdays when the students leave just after 2.
At the end of the day please ensure your classroom is neat and tidy and turn off all lights and heaters etc. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.
Please leave a brief summary of the work completed and any notes on what needs to be followed up. This may be done on Compass or as a hard copy.
Before leaving the school please visit the office to sign out. Make sure you return the iPad, CRT folder and any keys.
We look forward to seeing you at Vic Uni SC and hope you enjoy your day with us.
