Hi and welcome to the Resurrection Primary School Casual Relief Teacher podcast. We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!
So let’s get started!
Classes commence at 8.45 and it is highly recommended you arrive no later than 8.20. Yes that is 8.20! The school runs a thorough induction program and will provide you with a comprehensive CRT Guide, therefore you need to ensure you leave ample time to meet with the Deputy Principal, Natalie Kenny, your teaching colleague for the day, and have time to familiarise yourself with the CRT
Guide and school. So please, leave yourself plenty of time.
You are welcome to park onsite, in the car park at the front of the school. Just be aware, you need to enter the school via the church driveway on Corrigan Rd, just to the left of the school, as you approach from Cheltenham Road. Follow this driveway around to the school car park.
Dress code for our school is smart casual, no denim nor singlet tops. And please bring a hat in all but the winter months.
Once you have parked make your way to the School Office – it is well signed – and ask for Natalie Kenny.
Natalie will assist you to sign in, and give you a brief induction to the school as well as a CRT Guide, and keys if required.
Your CRT Guide is most comprehensive and includes information on
• The school
• Classroom management including specific information about
• Students with medical needs
• Students with disabilities
• Students with behaviour management plans and
• Students with specific learning needs
• Marking the roll
• Yard duty
• How to handle any emergency issues and
• A CRT checklist and evaluation form that must be completed before you leave.
Please arrive in time so that you can become familiar with this information.
If you are unsure of any of these details, please ask Natalie for assistance.
Attendance rolls need to be completed online at 9am and 2pm daily. If you have any issues with this please speak to the Office Staff or one of your colleagues.
Student work for the day will be available for you. If you have any concerns about the work please speak to your teaching colleague. Resurrection PS works in open plan teams and there will always be support and guidance provided by
one of the teachers in your team.
We expect you to complete the work as suggested. This should make your day more enjoyable as the children will be familiar with the routines and current units of work.
Please correct all work and if necessary collect it for the teacher.
The photocopier is available for your use, but please speak to the office staff or your teaching colleague who will organise this for you.
Students at our school do have access to digital resources. Just remember these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason. Please monitor this use carefully. Speak to a member of staff if there are any concerns.
Typically, the students at Resurrection are well-behaved and respond very well to positive reinforcement. If any behavioural issues arise please follow the following steps –
1 – verbal warning outlining what behaviour is unacceptable and what the student should be doing
2 – ask the child to relocate to a different seat for a brief time-out
3 – brief time out in an adjoining room.
If any serious or emergency issues arise, including serious behaviour issues, you should seek assistance from a colleague or the office immediately.
If you are on yard duty please move to the designated area punctually. Natalie will assist you with the areas. A Hi Viz vest and a duty bag will be available for you. Please ask if you are unsure, and don’t forget your sunsmart hat!
If a child is injured or ill, or you need assistance in the yard, please use the sick bay cards in the duty bag.
If a child needs to leave your classroom at any time during the day, please make sure they leave with a partner. If they have to go to sick bay from the classroom, please call the office, then send them with a partner.
At the end of the day please leave a brief summary of the work completed for the class teacher. A comprehensive Evaluation sheet is included in the info you will collect at the beginning of the day. Please complete it before you leave, and return to Natalie. Comments on the behaviour of individuals and/or the class may be useful.
Ensure the classroom is neat, clean and tidy. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.
At the end of the day all children are required to move to the collection areas at the front and back of the school, which are supervised by staff members. It is important you check all students move to these areas promptly after the 3.20pm bell. If you have any concerns about a student please speak to a staff member.
Never leave a child from your class unsupervised at the end of the day. Any children still uncollected by 3.40pm at either the front or back of the school, will be sent to the office.
Before leaving the school, please visit the office to sign out on the iPad. Leave the keys, Evaluation form and CRT folder at the office before you leave. If you feel any matter needs to be followed-up, please speak to Natalie, or our Office Staff.
If all is OK, travel home safely and we hope to see you again.
