Hi and welcome to the Lyndhurst Secondary College relief teacher podcast.
We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!
So let’s get started!
Classes commence at 8.50 so it is highly recommended you arrive no later than 8.30. Lyndhurst Secondary is a large school and you will need time to get yourself organised for the day.
Relief teachers are welcome to park in the staff car park located on Wentworth Avenue.
The staff of Lyndhurst Secondary College should, at all times, project an image befitting their professional status within the College Community. Unless you are teaching PE smart casual is the dress code.
Once parked, head straight to the school’s admin office and ask for Maree Hancock.
If this is your first day at Lyndhurst, Maree will give you a brief induction. You will also be given your allotment for the day and an iPad. A username and password will allow you access to Compass where you will find the attendance roll and the student work for the day. Make sure you mark the roll as required. If you are not confident with any of these procedures please let Maree know on arrival.
You will also be a given a copy of our school’s CRT folder containing important information on
- session times
- yard duty
- guidelines for managing student behaviour
- lesson procedures
- emergency management procedures
- student dress code
- and a school map
We recommend you spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with these details as soon as you arrive. In particular please read pages 3 to 5. This should make your day run smoothly.
If you are unsure of any matters during the day please be prepared to ask for assistance. You will find your colleagues more than happy to help.
Most days student work will have been left for you to follow on Compass, however make sure you do have your own resources as this is not always the case.
If there is no work available on the Compass program, please speak to Maree as work may have been placed in the teacher’s pigeon hole.
Please complete the work as outlined on compass or in the pack handed to you. This should make your day more enjoyable as the students will be familiar with the routines and their current work.
Please correct work and if necessary collect it for the teacher.
Students at our school do have access to digital resources such as laptops and Ipads. Just remember these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason. A comprehensive outline of our ICT Policy is included in the CRT Pack.
Typically the students at Lyndhurst are well-behaved but of course from time to time problems arise. It is important that you consult page 15 of the CRT pack for guidelines on managing student behaviour.
Briefly, Lyndhurst Secondary College has implemented a School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) to establish a school climate in which appropriate behaviour is the norm for all students. This approach promotes proactive and explicit teaching of behavioural expectations. The school acknowledges and gives recognition to students for following the expectations, rather than waiting for misbehaviour and unacceptable behaviour to occur before responding. The Lyndhurst Secondary College Behaviour Expectation matrix is displayed in all teaching spaces and other areas of the school and is an integral part of the framework for creating a positive, safe and engaging school environment.
If you are on yard duty please move to the designated area immediately. If you are unsure where to go, make sure you ask a colleague.
Classes are dismissed at 3.00 and at the end of the day please leave a brief summary of the work completed for the class teacher. This can be done on Compass.
