About the Role:
Tradewind are working together with an alternative school in the Melton area offering a unique opportunity for teachers passionate about provide Victorian Pathways education that support disengaged students. This role focuses on re-engaging students through personalised education aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, integrating the Berry Street Education Model, focusing on key skill areas of literacy, numeracy, personal development and work related skills. This 0.8 (4 days a week) role is a fixed term position, working within a small team focused on making a difference to students in years 10 and 11 looking to achieve a pathways certificate that will assist them to move into other areas such as trades and work opportunities.
Key duties:
- Deliver tailored lessons aligned with students' academic abilities, focusing on foundational literacy, numeracy, and other essential skills.
- Adapt curriculum delivery to meet diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring each student has access to meaningful educational experiences.
- Collaborate on projects, excursions and experiences to enhance learning and understanding
- Establish trust and positive relationships with students who may have experienced trauma, disengagement, or educational barriers.
- Act as a mentor and advocate, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Address behavioural challenges with patience and strategies aimed at de-escalation and positive reinforcement.
- Work collaboratively with wellbeing teams to support students' socio-emotional needs.
- Design hands-on, practical, and interest-based activities to re-engage students in the learning process.
- Utilise flexible teaching methods, including project-based and experiential learning.
- Work closely with school counsellors, social workers, and other support staff to provide holistic care for students.
- Regularly assess and document student progress academically, socially, and behaviourally.
- Engage in ongoing training specific to trauma-informed practices, behaviour management, and inclusive education strategies.
- Reflect on teaching practices and stay updated on methods to better serve disengaged learners.
Skills & Experience:
- Must hold unrestricted working rights in Australia
- Current VIT registration is essential
- Demonstrate previous experience in teaching at Primary/Secondary level in Australia
- Understanding of the VPC (Vic Pathways Curriculum) essential
- Experience in working with students with additional needs highly advantageous
- Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).
