Job Description

About the Role:
A fantastic opportunity is open for a VCE English and Literature teacher to become part of a fantastic Catholic senior school near Taylor's Hill in Melbourne's West. This position is focused on instructing students in years 11-12, in a full-time or part time, role starting early Term 2 teaching year 12 English and Year 11 Literature and English Language classes.

Key duties:

  • Design and develop lesson plans, assignments, and assessments aligned with the English curriculum, including VCE Literature requirements. This involves selecting appropriate texts, creating engaging learning activities, and ensuring alignment with educational standards.
  • Deliver effective and engaging instruction to students in English language and literature. This may include teaching literary analysis, writing skills, grammar, vocabulary, and critical thinking.
  • Teach students how to critically analyse literary texts, including novels, poems, plays, and non-fiction. This involves helping students understand literary devices, themes, characters, plot structures, and historical contexts.
  • Provide instruction and feedback on writing skills, including essay writing, creative writing, and analytical writing.
  • Assist students in preparing for VCE Literature exams, including the development of exam strategies, practice exams, and review sessions.
  • Establish and maintaining a positive and productive learning environment, including managing student behaviour, promoting respect and collaboration, and addressing disciplinary issues as needed.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed about best practices in English education, curriculum updates, and educational research.

Skills & Experience:

  • Completed relevant Qualifications in Education
  • Maintain a valid and up-to-date VIT registration
  • Have unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Demonstrate previous experience in teaching VCE English/Literature
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).
