Position Title: Speech Pathologist


Position Overview:
Are you a skilled Speech Pathologist passionate about making a difference for individuals with complex needs? Join a dedicated multidisciplinary clinical team that focuses on rehabilitation and reintegration for incarcerated individuals.

Employment Details:

  • Full-Time Salary: $101,000 - $114,000 + superannuation (Pro-rata for Part-Time roles)
  • Location: Western Melbourne

About the Role:
The Speech Pathologist plays a critical role as part of the Complex Needs team, working with individuals in specialist units who face significant challenges such as mental illness, cognitive impairments, and comorbid disorders. This multidisciplinary team includes psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists, all working collaboratively to provide high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver assessments and interventions for speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Provide expert advice and training to clinical and custodial staff to enhance support strategies.
  • Participate in case-management planning, including behavior management and reintegration plans.
  • Facilitate post-release planning, including referrals to community speech pathology services.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address complex client needs.
  • Maintain thorough case notes and prepare detailed clinical reports.

You are a compassionate and experienced Speech Pathologist eager to work within a unique and challenging environment. Your expertise in addressing complex communication needs and commitment to professional excellence make you an ideal fit for this role.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Speech Pathology and registration as a practicing member of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Proven ability to assess and develop intervention plans for speech, language, and social communication challenges.
  • Experience working with adults or older adolescents, particularly those exhibiting behaviors of concern.
  • Familiarity with Positive Behavior Support principles and their application.
  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work within a correctional setting and engage directly with individuals in custody.
  • Current Australian driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a National Criminal History Check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours when required.
