About the Role:
An exciting opportunity awaits a committed Junior Secondary Science teacher to join a welcoming and excellent Catholic school near Footscray, in Melbourne's Inner West, starting Term 1, 2025. This full-time, permanent role is ideal for educators at any stage of their career, from enthusiastic new graduates to seasoned teaching professionals. The position involves teaching Junior Science- years 7-9, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning during these crucial early secondary years.

Key duties:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive science curriculum aligned with educational standards and guidelines, covering various disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and environmental science under the Victorian Curriculum.
  • Create engaging and differentiated lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, incorporating hands-on experiments, demonstrations, and inquiry-based activities.
  • Manage laboratory facilities and equipment, ensuring a safe and organized environment for conducting experiments and investigations. Teach students proper laboratory techniques, safety protocols, and ethical practices in scientific research.
  • Design and administer assessments, tests, and experiments to evaluate students' understanding and mastery of scientific concepts and skills
  • Engage in continuous professional development activities to stay updated on best practices in science education, teaching methodologies, curriculum developments, and technology integration. Attend workshops, seminars, and conferences relevant to science teaching.

Skills & Experience:

  • Must hold unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Current VIT registration is essential
  • Proven experience teaching secondary Science in Australia essential (or student placement)
  • Catholic school teaching experience highly regarded
  • Graduates are welcome to apply and will be supported
  • Ability to provide two education-based references from the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable)
