Job Description

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity awaits an experienced English Domain Leader to join a community-focused Catholic school in Keilor, commencing Term 2. This role involves teaching English to students in Years 7-10 while providing strategic and instructional leadership within the English faculty. The successful candidate will support staff and students in achieving excellence and foster innovative teaching practices.

Key Teaching duties:

  • Plan and deliver lessons to build advanced language skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing (Victorian Curriculum).
  • Teach text analysis, literature interpretation, essay writing, debates, and presentations across diverse genres and cultural contexts.
  • Strengthen grammar, syntax, and language conventions to enhance communication.
  • Foster critical thinking through text evaluation and interpretation.
  • Inspire creativity via writing workshops, poetry, and storytelling.
  • Guide students in research skills for independent inquiry.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share effective English teaching strategies and resources.

Key Leadership duties:

  • Foster student agency and engagement in learning
  • Build teacher capacity to use data for differentiated instruction
  • Strengthen partnerships within the school and broader community
  • Lead teaching and learning, staff development, and strategic innovation
  • Ensure domain curriculum is relevant, future-focused, and engaging
  • Guide curriculum development using strong content and pedagogical knowledge
  • Mentor and support domain staff through coaching, resources, and best practices

Skills & Experience:

  • Completed relevant Qualifications in Education
  • Current/valid VIT registration (or in the application process)
  • Have unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Demonstrate previous experience in teaching English in Australia
  • Proven Leadership experience within a Secondary school setting required
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).
  • Uphold the highest quality of child protection

Offering:

  • POL2.5 (Position of Leadership) role, including an additional financial incentive of approx., $8K and time allowance
  • Salary range: $80,000-$115,000, based on experience and qualifications
  • English teaching component for Years 8-10 students
