About the Role:
A terrific opportunity awaits a talented P-9 Music teacher to join a community-focused school in Williamstown/Altona in 2024 for a full time position starting in Term 2. This school, serving around 1000 students from years F-12 across three campuses, provides a great opportunity to be part of a wonderful school community. The school supports both graduates and experienced teachers, offers learning coaching, and great resources.

Key duties:

  • Planning and delivering engaging music lessons that cater to the needs and interests of students
  • Creating or following the Victorian curriculum that aligns with educational standards and objectives, incorporating elements such as music theory, history, performance skills, and appreciation.
  • Teaching students how to play various musical instruments, such as the piano, guitar, recorder, or drums, depending on available resources and student interests.
  • Introducing students to music theory concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, notation, and scales, in age-appropriate ways.
  • Fostering an appreciation for different styles and genres of music through listening activities, discussions, and exposure to a diverse range of musical works.
  • Organizing and facilitating opportunities for students to showcase their musical talents through concerts or school performances.
  • Assessing students' progress and understanding through various means, such as performance evaluations, written assignments, and practical assessments.
  • Continuously engaging in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in music education and to enhance teaching skills.
  • Managing musical instruments, resources, and materials effectively to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.

Skills & Experience:

  • Have unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Completed relevant Qualifications in Education
  • Maintain a valid and up-to-date VIT registration
  • Demonstrate previous experience in teaching primary/secondary music
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).
