Job Description

A remarkable opportunity awaits a dedicated Religious Education Teacher to join a terrific Catholic Secondary school in Point Cook, this term. This full-time role, commencing in mid-April (Term 2) and extending until the end of the year, presents the potential for ongoing employment. Duties include instructing students 7-8 in RE and one Technology class- 'Lego Masters!'. Key Duties

  • Planning and delivering engaging and comprehensive Religious Education lessons that align with the school's Catholic ethos and the religious education curriculum within the Victorian Curriculum.
  • Fostering the spiritual growth and development of students by providing opportunities for prayer, reflection, and exploration of Catholic teachings, values, and traditions.
  • Assisting students in preparing for sacraments such as Confirmation, First Holy Communion, and Reconciliation through religious instruction, retreats, and sacramental programs.
  • Teaching students about the Bible, including the Old and New Testaments, and guiding them in understanding the teachings of Jesus Christ and their relevance to contemporary life.
  • Exploring ethical and moral issues from a Catholic perspective, including topics such as social justice, human rights, and the dignity of life, and encouraging students to apply Catholic moral principles to their decision-making and actions.
  • Engaging with the school community, including parents, parish members, and external Catholic organizations, to promote collaboration and support for the school's religious education program.
  • Providing pastoral support and guidance to students, including counselling, mentoring, and spiritual direction, to help them navigate personal challenges and develop a deeper relationship with God.
  • Assessing students' understanding and application of Catholic teachings and values through various forms of assessment, including exams, projects, presentations, and reflective journals.

Skills & Experience:

  • Must have unrestricted working rights in Australia
  • Hold a valid VIT registration
  • Catholic Accreditation favourable but not essential
  • Experience in RE advantageous
  • Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • An understanding and appreciation of Catholic teachings, values, and traditions are essential for teaching within the Catholic system, or a preparedness to be working within this system
