Williamstown Primary

Podcast transcript

Hi and welcome to the Williamstown Primary School relief teacher podcast.

We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our Willy Kids!

So let’s get started!

Classes commence at 9 so it is highly recommended you arrive no later than 8.30.

Parking can be an issue around the school – and the last thing you would want is a parking ticket – so we recommend you park across the road in Electra Street outside the Mechanics Hall.

Our school office is also in Electra St just along from the Parker St corner. The office staff will be expecting you. Sign-in, collect your CRT folder, and one of the office staff or our Assistant Principal, Mat Montebello, will show you to your room.

Our CRT folder contains important information on

  • session times
  • your daily timetable including yard duty
  • children with special needs, including those with a medical condition.
  • student safety when moving to and from classrooms
  • and how to manage lunch orders

We recommend you spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with these details as soon as you arrive.

And look for the Emergency Management Plan just in case. It will be displayed near the teacher’s desk.

When the children arrive make sure you mark the roll and send this to the office before 9.30

More than likely a daily program will be there for you to follow, please complete the work as suggested. This should make your day more enjoyable as the children will be familiar with the routines and current units of work.

Please correct work and if necessary collect it for the teacher.

If there is no work available, please speak to a senior staff member who will be able to assist you.

The photocopier is available for your use. Again simply ask a senior staff member in your area for assistance.

Across the school it is common for the students to work on ipads. Just remember these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason, or at recess or lunch.

Typically the kids at Willy are well-behaved but of course that is not always the case. The school implements a whole-school program called, Willy Kids Are Friendly Kids. If you have any behaviour problems, simply ask the child,

“Is that your best Willy Kid behaviour? I am sure you can do better than that.”

If any poor behaviour persists speak to a senior teacher or a principal

If you are working at Willy on a Monday or Friday please note that whole school assemblies are held on Monday mornings in the quadrangle and Friday afternoons in the PE Hall. The kids will be familiar with these routines.

If you are on yard duty please move to the designated area immediately. There will be a bumbag in the classroom for you to take outside. Make sure you are familiar with its contents. And remember, if a child suffers a knock to the head, no matter how slight, they must go to sick bay at the office.

At the end of the day please leave a brief summary of the work completed for the class teacher. Comments on the behaviour of individuals and/or the class may be useful.

Ensure the classroom is neat and tidy and all doors and windows are locked. Please turn off all computers, heaters etc. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.

If you are in a junior class make sure you remain until all students have been collected by a parent or guardian, or have moved to after school care. If you have any concerns please speak to a staff member.
Before leaving the school please visit the office to sign out.
