Westgrove Primary

Podcast transcript

Hi and welcome to the Westgrove Primary School relief teacher podcast.
We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!
So let’s get started!

Classes commence at 8.50 so it is highly recommended you arrive no later than 8.30.
You are welcome to use the school’s staff car park on Thames Boulevard or there is parking in the adjoining streets.

The dress code is smart casual /professional profile – no denim, no singlet tops and closed toed shoes only. Sports gear is appropriate if teaching PE or participating in sports supervision. SunSmart hats are required from September – April.

Once parked head to the school office where you will be asked to sign-in and meet with Trudy Price.

You will be given an information pack relating to your class for the day. Please have a look over the information pack as it has important details on

• session times
• your daily timetable including yard duty
• children with special needs, including those with a medical condition, and • what to do if a student is ill or injured.
A school map is also included with details on yard duty areas.

If this is your first visit to our school you will also be required to sign our Child Safe Code of Conduct.

If you are on yard duty please note The school is broken up into 5-yard duty areas which are outlined on the school map provided. Yard duty bags for each area are stored behind the door in the first aid room when not being used on yard duty. Teachers pass the yard duty bag to the next teacher on change over. These bags contain information about specific students, first aid room and emergency cards, an iPad and a hard copy sheet for recording incidents on yard duty. CRTs are required to document all incidents on the hard copy sheet included. Ensure that you include your name, date, students’ names, grade and incident

A classroom attendance roll will be included in your information pack. Attendance rolls are important documents so please mark the roll early as a matter of priority. Rolls need to be marked both morning and afternoon. If you have any query about this process it is important to ask when you arrive.

You will also find an emergency management plan near the door in each classroom. OH and S information is displayed in the staffroom.

We recommend you spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with these details as soon as you arrive.
More than likely a daily program will be there for you to follow, so please complete the work as suggested. This should make your day more enjoyable as the children will be familiar with the routines and their current units of work.

Please correct work and if necessary collect it for the teacher.

If there is no work available, please speak to the Year Level Co-ordinator who will be able to assist you.

Students at our school do have access to digital resources such as laptops and Ipads. Just remember these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason, nor at recess or lunch.

Classes are dismissed at 3.15. Ensure the classroom is neat and tidy and all doors and windows are locked. Please turn off all computers, heaters etc and lock all doors. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.

At the end of the day please complete a handover page. Tradewind have one available or you can simply write your own. Let the teacher know what work was covered, what needs to be followed up and how well the children worked throughout the day.

You will need to remain for at least 15 minutes at the end of the day to tidy up and write your handover notes. By this time all the students should have headed home or been picked up. If this is not the case please inform your teaching colleague or the office. Never leave the school if a child or children remain unsupervised. Make sure you let someone know.

Before leaving the school please visit the office to sign out.

We look forward to seeing you at Westgrove and hope you enjoy your day with us.
