Hi and welcome to the Sirius College Keysborough Campus relief teacher podcast.
We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!
So let’s get started!
Classes at Sirius Keysborough commence at 8.50 so it is highly recommended you arrive no later than 8.30.
Dress code for our school is conservative smart casual.
If you arrive prior to 8.30 you are invited to park in the staff car park, or middle car park as it is known. Access the school from Chapel Road and continue approximately 200 metres through the second set of gates to the car park.
If you are later than 8.30 the middle car park is likely to be locked and you will need to park in the visitors’ car park just off Chapel Road.
If you do use the middle car park you will be able to head straight to the staff room to the left of the car park. If you choose to park in the visitors’ car park you will need to access the school through the general office.
Most importantly when you arrive you need to meet with our daily organiser, Ismail Turkel.
Ismail will have a detailed CRT pack for you, and if there is time, will give you a brief induction to the school.
You will find the school’s CRT pack most comprehensive. Make sure you look over the pack as soon as you arrive. It will make your day so much easier and more enjoyable. It contains information on
- Bell times
- Yard duty
- The names and contact details of senior staff
- Ismail’s mobile number and crucially
- a hard copy of the attendance roll and the instructions on how this is to bemarked.
It is essential you fully understand what is required in marking the roll and follow these instructions to the letter. If you are unsure please ask Ismail for assistance.
Ismail will also be able to assist you with the student work for the day. If you are teaching in the primary classes the students’ work will be left on the teacher’s
desk. If this is not the case please speak to Ismail. If you are teaching in the secondary classes, Ismail will direct you to the work for the day.
Please implement the lessons outlined and make sure you follow-up on the students’ work. Correct it where required and if appropriate, collect it and leave it on the teacher’s desk or with Ismail.
Students at our school do have access to digital resources such as laptops and Ipads. Just remember these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason, nor at recess or lunch. Students are not allowed access to mobile phones and you have the authority to confiscate phones and give them to the area co-ordinator if necessary.
You will find the students at Sirius keen to work, helpful and enthusiastic. But occasionally behavioural issue may arise. If this does happen we suggest you employ the following procedure.
- Issue a cautionary warning informing the student what behaviour you find unacceptable, and what your expectations are
- If the behaviour continues or deteriorates you may ask the student to move seats
- And finally if the behaviour escalates, you need to speak to one of our senior staff.
You will have Ismail’s phone number so please contact him if any significant issue arises. You will find the school most supportive and willing to assist.
If you are on yard duty during the day, this will be stated in the CRT folder. A Hi Viz vest and first aid bag will be available in the staffroom. If any child sustains an injury in the yard please send to them sick bay in the office.
Classes are dismissed at 3.35.
At the end of the day please complete a brief summary of the work completed for the class teacher, leave it on the desk or hand it directly to Ismail. Feedback on your day, in particular the performance of the students and the work completed is much appreciated. Comments on the behaviour of individuals and/or the class may also be useful.
When you leave for the day, ensure the classroom is neat and tidy and all doors and windows are locked. Please have the children put the chairs on the tables and turn off all lights and heaters etc. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.
Before leaving the school please visit the office to see Ismail and to sign out. Make sure you return the CRT pack and any keys to Ismail.
We look forward to seeing you at Sirius College Keysborough and hope you enjoy your day with us.
