Narre Warren South

Podcast transcript

Hi and welcome to the Narre Warren South P – 12 College relief teacher podcast.
We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!

So let’s get started!

Classes commence at 8.45 and it is highly recommended you are signed-in no later than 8.30.

Please be aware Narre Warren South is a huge school with over 2000 students, so do not arrive at the school gate at 8.25 expecting to be parked and signed in by 8.30. As well, it is not uncommon to have up to twenty relief teachers on any given day, all requiring some assistance in the morning. So please, leave yourself plenty of time.

You are welcome to park onsite, in the staff car park at the front of the school. Be aware, Google maps may direct you to park in an adjacent street, but it is far better to park in the staff car park. Simply press the intercom button and the boom gate will be opened for you.

Dress code for our school is smart casual, no denim nor singlet tops.

Once you have parked make your way to the Admin Office in Block A – it is well signed – and alongside the car park. On arrival please sign in as a visitor and ask for Bridget Cox. Both primary and secondary replacement teachers need to meet with Bridget before the day commences.

Bridget will assist you with signing in, give you a brief induction to the school, as well as a CRT folder, a chrome book or Ipad, a USB lanyard and classroom keys.

Your CRT folder contains vital information on
• session times
• class lists and how and when to mark the roll
• yard duty information
• a school map and
• network log-in details

The USB will have plenty of information for you including
• health alerts
• student management protocols
• and feedback forms

It is highly recommended you arrive early enough to look through all of this information in the Block A staffroom before moving to your teaching area for the day.

As mentioned, NWS P-12 is a large school and if you need to confirm any details it is best to do this with Bridget before you move from the admin area.

Attendance rolls need to be completed on Compass at home group, and for periods 1, 3 and 5. If you have any issues with this please speak to Bridget or one of your colleagues. If for some reason it is necessary to mark a paper roll for the day, please ensure it is returned fully completed and returned to the office.

A daily program will be available for you online. Log in details will be provided.
We expect you complete the work as suggested. This should make your day more enjoyable as the children will be familiar with the routines and current units of work.

And if you have any concerns about the work please speak to your teaching colleague or Bridget.

Please correct all work and if necessary collect it for the teacher.

CRT are not expected to use digital resources when working with the students.

If you are on yard duty please move to the designated area punctually. Bridget will assist you with the areas. A Hi Viz vest, a bumbag and a walkie-talkie will be available in the office area, please ask if you are unsure. If a child is injured or ill, or you need assistance in the yard, please use the walkie-talkie.

If a child needs to leave your classroom at any time during the day, please make sure they leave with a partner. If they have to go to sick bay from the classroom, please complete a note explaining the reason, and again, send them with a partner and a sick bay lanyard.

At the end of the day/period please leave a brief summary of the work completed for the class teacher. Comments on the behaviour of individuals and/or the class may be useful.

Ensure the classroom is neat and tidy. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.

Before leaving the school please visit the office to sign out using your identification number. Leave the keys, the laptop, usb lanyard and CRT folder at the office before you leave. If you feel any matter needs to be followed-up, please speak to Bridget.
