King David School

Podcast transcript

Hi and welcome to the King David School relief teacher podcast.

We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!

So let’s get started!

Classes commence at 8.35 –yes 8.35 – so it is highly recommended you arrive no later than 8.15.   King David is a large and busy school and you will need at least half an hour to get yourself organised for the day.

If you are teaching PE please come appropriately dressed. Smart casual is required for all other staff.

Traffic and parking can be an issue in our area so make sure you give yourself extra time when leaving home.

You will need to park in neighbouring streets where parking restrictions can apply. Please consult a directory before you head for school and have a sound grasp of where you are going.

Once parked, head straight to the school’s administration office where you will need to sign-in and be given

  • An identification badge
  • Classroom keys
  • Our CRT pack and
  • Your timetable for the day

Our CRT folder contains important information on

  • Session times
  • How to mark the attendance roll
  • A school map
  • A network password and
  • How to access the student work for the day

We recommend you spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with these details as soon as you arrive. Pay particular attention to the roll-marking guidelines and if you are unsure please ask the office staff.

At the same time, if you have any queries or concerns about the student lessons throughout the day please do not hesitate to ask in order to ensure that you have all the relevant information and resources you need in order to take your classes.

Please complete the work as suggested. This should make your day more enjoyable as the students will be familiar with the routines and their current work.

Please correct work and if necessary collect it for the teacher.

Students at our school do have access to digital resources such as laptops and Ipads. Just remember these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason.

Typically the students at King David are well-behaved and work co-operatively but it is important you take a professional and positive approach right from the start of the day. Students respond well to good communication and high expectations. If you do encounter any behavioural issues these should be noted and discussed with the daily organiser

If you are on yard duty please move to the designated area immediately. If you are unsure where to go, make sure you ask a colleague.

Classes are dismissed at 3.40 and your attendance is required until 4.00pm. Please use this time at the end of the day to write a brief summary of the work completed for the class teacher.

Ensure the classroom is neat and tidy and if furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.
Before leaving the school please visit the office to sign out and to return the keys and CRT pack.

We look forward to seeing you at King David and hope you enjoy your day with us.
