Kambrya College

Podcast transcript

Hi and welcome to the Kambrya College relief teacher podcast.

We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!

So let’s get started!

Classes commence at 9.00 so it is highly recommended you arrive around 8.30. Kambrya is a large school and you will need at least half an hour to get yourself organised for the day.

Some staff visiting the school for the first time may find the directions a little confusing so please consider this before leaving home. It can be busy on and around the main arterial roads. Leave yourself plenty of time and travel safely.

Relief teachers are welcome to park in the staff carpark but be aware the gates are locked during school hours. If you need to leave the school prior to 3.30 you will need to arrange this with reception. It is possible to park in the adjoining streets however please be aware parking restrictions may apply.

Kambrya expects all staff to adopt a highly professional approach at all times. Unless you are dressed to take PE classes a professional dress code applies. No denim, and gentlemen should wear a tie.

Once parked, head straight to the school’s reception area where you will need to to sign-in and be given

  • Your timetable for the day
  • A map of the school
  • A netbook
  • Classroom keys
  • Guidelines for managing student behaviour and
  • Two “Out of class” lanyards. We will explain how these are to be used shortly.

Make sure you are familiar with how to use the netbook as you will need to access Compass to find guidelines on student work, and mark the rolls. If you have any concerns ask at reception before you head to your room.

Always mark the rolls within the first ten minutes of class. Our parents are notified immediately if a student is absent so it is critical rolls are kept up to date.

All of the student work should be on Compass. Any hard copy resources will be found in the “Extras pigeon holes outside the main staffroom.”

It is rare a CRT will arrive and find there is no work prepared however if this does happen, you need to have your own collection of activities for the students. It is also recommended you bring along your own whiteboard markers and pens.

Please complete the work as suggested on Compass. This should make your day more enjoyable as the students will be familiar with the routines and their current work.

Please correct work and if necessary collect it for the teacher.

Students at our school do have access to digital resources such as laptops. Be aware these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason, or at recess or lunch.

You will find students responsive to a positive, professional approach but if you do encounter any behavioural issues it is essential you refer to, and implement, the steps outlined in the Ladder of Intervention which you have in your CRT pack.

Only two students may leave a classroom at any one time, and those two students must carry a lanyard each. When issuing lanyards note the student’s name, destination and exit time. It is critical these lanyards are returned to the office at the end of the day.

If you are on yard duty this will be noted at the top of your timetable. Flouro vests are available outside the staff toilets. Please move to the designated area immediately. If you are unsure where to go, refer to the school map or ask a colleague.

Classes are dismissed at 3.25 each day except Tuesdays when students finish at 2.30.

At the end of the day please leave a brief summary of the work completed for the class teacher. This can be done on Compass.

Ensure the classroom is neat and tidy and all doors and windows are locked. Please log out of Compass, turn off all computers, heaters etc. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.
Before leaving the school please visit the office to sign out, return the keys, the notebook, the lanyards and the CRT folder. Ensure the CRT folder is intact, as this will assist the next CRT.

We look forward to seeing you at Kambrya College and hope you enjoy your day with us.
