Hume Central

Podcast transcript

Hi and welcome to the Hume Central Secondary College relief teacher podcast.

We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!

So let’s get started!

Classes commence at 8.45 so it is highly recommended you arrive no later than 8.15. Hume Central is a large and busy school and you will need at least half an hour to get yourself organised for the day.

Relief teachers are welcome to park in the school car park off Dimboola Road.

Hume Central expects all staff to adopt a highly professional approach at all times. Unless you are dressed to take PE classes a smart casual dess code applies – avoid wearing denim jeans, open-toe footwear and sleeveless tops. Oh, and bring your smile. It will be most appreciated!

Once parked, head straight to the school’s reception area where you will need to sign-in and be greeted by the office administrator or the daily organiser. You will be handed a CRT pack which includes

  • A timetable
  • A school map
  • Classroom keys
  • Information on classroom behaviour management
  • An incident report form and
  • Class rolls

Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with these documents.

Attendance rolls are important legal documents and must be marked promptly at the beginning of each period. These rolls should then be sent directly to the administration office.

The daily organiser will also provide physical copies of class instructions, lesson plans and resources.

Please complete the work as suggested. This should make your day more enjoyable as the students will be familiar with the routines and their current work.

Please correct work and if necessary collect it for the teacher.

If you have any queries or concerns throughout the day please do not hesitate to ask in order to ensure that you have all the relevant information and resources you need in order to take your classes.

If you are on yard duty this will be noted at the top of your timetable. Flouro vests are available. Please ask the daily organiser to locate one for you. If you are unsure of your area for duty, refer to the school map or ask a colleague.

Students at our school have access to digital resources. Be aware these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason, or at recess or lunch.

You will find students responsive to a positive, professional approach but if you do encounter any behavioural issues we recommend you refer to the guidelines contained in your CRT pack.

Again, if you have any difficulty in this are we suggest you seek advice from the daily organiser or one of the senior staff. Colleagues will be able to assist you with these arrangements.

Classes finish at 3.00pm. At the end of the day please leave a brief summary of the work completed for the class teacher, and also comment on the students’ engagement, work and behaviour. Please hand this to the daily organiser as you leave for the day.

Ensure the classroom is neat and tidy and if furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.
Before leaving the school, please visit the office to sign out, return the keys, your handover notes and the CRT folder. Ensure the CRT folder is intact, as this will assist the next CRT.

We look forward to seeing you at Hume Central and hope you enjoy your day with us.
