Hi and welcome to the Glenvale College relief teacher podcast.
We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!
So let’s get started!
Classes at Glenvale College commence at 9.00 – so it is highly recommended you arrive at the office no later than 8.30.
Teachers at our school dress conservatively and modestly. All male teachers need to wear long trousers, no denim, and female teachers should wear a dress or a skirt.
You are welcome to use the school car park.
On arrival you will need to head to the main office, sign-in, and ask for school office administrator, Geraldine.
Geraldine will give you a brief induction to the school, including information on occupational health and safety. You will be handed a sheet detailing your work for the day as well as a classroom key.
The running sheet is crucial for your work at the school. It will outline the prescribed lessons for the students in your care and enable you to mark the roll for each class. Be mindful of how important this is and make sure you arrive in time for this induction. Also, if you have any queries about accessing rolls or student work don’t be afraid to ask before the day begins. Geraldine will be more than happy to help.
If you are on yard duty during the day you will need to wear a safety vest and take with you a first aid bag. Again Geraldine will be able to help you. If you have any queries about this procedure don’t be afraid to ask.
Please implement the lessons outlined for each class and make sure you follow-up on the students’ work. Correct it where required and if appropriate, collect it and leave it in the teacher’s pigeon hole.
You will find the students at Glenvale keen to work, helpful and enthusiastic. But occasionally behavioural issue may arrive. If this does happen we suggest you speak directly to Geraldine. And it is a good idea to speak to Geraldine or one of the senior staff prior to the commencement of the school day as they will have simple guidelines for you to follow if any discipline issues arise.
Remember, Glenvale is a college founded on Christian values and both staff and students are expected to demonstrate these at all times in their interactions. This is basic to all curricular objectives.
Senior students at our school do have access to digital resources such as laptops and Ipads. Just remember these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason, or at recess or lunch.
Classes are dismissed at 3.00.
Ensure the classroom is neat and tidy and all doors and windows are locked. Please turn off all computers, heaters etc. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.
At the end of the day please complete a handover page. Tradewind have one available or you can simply write your own. Let the teacher know what work was covered, what needs to be followed up and how well the children worked throughout the day.
Before leaving the school please visit the office to sign out. Make sure you return the classroom key and any other resource you may have used.
We look forward to seeing you at Glenvale College and hope you enjoy your day with us.
