Hi and welcome to the Elisabeth Murdoch College relief teacher podcast.
We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!
So let’s get started!
Classes commence at 8.45 so it is highly recommended you arrive no later than 8.15. Elisabeth Murdoch is a large school and you will need at least half an hour to get yourself organised for the day.
Traffic and parking can be an issue in our area so make sure you give yourself extra time when leaving home.
The staff car park fills early and while there is a secondary car park located behind the school we stress the importance of planning to arrive early. There are three schools in close proximity to Elisabeth Murdoch and traffic can be terrible, particularly if it is wet.
Once parked, head straight to the school’s admin office and ask for Terry Kiat.
If this is your first day at Elisabeth Murdoch, Terry will give you a brief induction. You will also collect the necessary keys and an iPad. A username and password will allow you access to Compass where you will find the attendance roll and the student work for the day. Make sure you mark the roll as required. If you are not confident with any of these procedures then please let Terry know on arrival.
If you are teaching PE please come appropriately dressed. Smart casual is required for all other staff.
Our CRT folder contains important information on
- session times
- your daily timetable including yard duty
- and a school map
We recommend you spend a few minutes familiarizing yourself with these details as soon as you arrive.
Elisabeth Murdoch is a large school with over 1500 students so it is important you are prepared to ask for assistance throughout the day. You will find your colleagues more than happy to help, but do ask.
Please complete the work as suggested on compass. This should make your day more enjoyable as the students will be familiar with the routines and their current work.
Please correct work and if necessary collect it for the teacher.
Students at our school do have access to digital resources such as laptops and Ipads. Just remember these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason, nor at recess or lunch.
Typically the kids at Elisabeth Murdoch are well-behaved but of course from time to time problems arise. A sheet outlining the school’s Progression of Consequences is available. Please look over this sheet on arrival.
If you are on yard duty please move to the designated area immediately. If you are unsure where to go, make sure you ask a colleague.
Classes are dismissed at 3.15 and at the end of the day please leave a brief summary of the work completed for the class teacher. This can be done on Compass.
Ensure the classroom is neat and tidy and all doors and windows are locked. Please turn off all computers, heaters etc. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.
Before leaving the school please visit the office to sign out.
We look forward to seeing you at Elisabeth Murdoch and hope you enjoy your day with us.
