Edinburgh College

Podcast transcript

Hi and welcome to the Edinburgh College relief teacher podcast.

We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time with our students!

So let’s get started!

Classes at Edinburgh commence at 8.30 – yes 8.30 – so it is highly recommended you arrive at the office no later than twenty past eight.

Smart casual is the school dress code.

You are welcome to use the school car park. Use the school entrance on Edinburgh Road. You will find the car park in front of the school gymnasium.

On arrival you will need to head to the main office, sign-in, and ask for the daily organiser, Tony Harrison. Tony will give you a brief induction and hand you an individual running sheet , and an iPad explaining how this will be used.

The iPad is crucial for your work on the day. It will allow you access to the prescribed work for the students in your care and enable you to mark the roll for each class. Be mindful of how important this is and make sure you arrive in time for this induction. Also, if you have any queries about accessing rolls or student work don’t be afraid to ask before the day begins. Tony will be more than happy to help.

The ipad will also have information for you on

  • Session times and
  • Yard duty

Again, make sure you know how to access this information.

Please implement the lessons outlined for each class and make sure you follow-up on the students’ work. Correct it where required and if appropriate, collect it and leave it in the teacher’s pigeon hole.

You will find the students at Edinburgh keen to work, helpful and enthusiastic. But occasionally behavioural issue may arrive. If this does happen we suggest you speak directly to Tony Harrison. The school is currently updating its behaviour guidelines so it is important you speak to Tony if there are any concerns.

Remember, Edinburgh is a college founded on Christian values and both staff and students are expected to demonstrate these at all times in their interactions. We strongly commit to the belief in unselfish concern for others and personal self-respect. This is basic to all curricular objectives.

Tony will let you know if you are on yard duty during the day. Please move promptly to your designated area.

Classes are dismissed at 3.25.

At the end of the day please ensure the classroom is neat and tidy and all doors and windows are locked. Please turn off all lights and heaters etc. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.
Before leaving the school please visit the office to sign out. Make sure you return the iPad to Tony and discuss with him how the day unfolded. Tony will then be able to pass this information to the teacher on return.

We look forward to seeing you at Edinburgh College and hope you enjoy your day with us.
