Hello there, and welcome to the East Preston Islamic College relief teacher podcast.
We have put this together to help you make the most of your day and enjoy your time at our school!
So let’s get started!
Classes at our College commence at 8.30 – so it is highly recommended you arrive at the office no later than 8.15.
Teachers at our school dress professionally, conservatively and modestly, aware of the Islamic tradition. All male teachers need to wear smart casual, preferably a tie, and no denim. All female teachers should wear a head scarf.
You are welcome to use the school car park. Parking is located at Gates 1 or 3. If you use gate 1 please make a sharp U-turn on entry to locate your car park.
On arrival you will need to head to the main office, sign-in, and meet with the daily organiser in the social staffroom.
Our daily organiser will give you a brief induction to the school. You will be handed a sheet detailing your work for the day as well as a classroom key if required.
The running sheet is crucial for your work at the school. It will outline the prescribed lessons for the students in your care and enable you to mark the roll for each class.
Be mindful of how important this is and make sure you arrive in time for this induction. Also, if you have any queries about accessing rolls or student work don’t be afraid to ask before the day begins. Our daily organiser will be more than happy to help.
If you are on yard duty during the day you will need to wear a safety vest. Again our daily organiser will be able to help you. If you have any queries about this procedure simply ask.
Please implement the lessons outlined for each class and make sure you follow-up on the students’ work. Correct it where required and if appropriate, collect it and leave it in the teacher’s pigeon hole.
Students at our school do have access to digital resources such as laptops and Ipads. Just remember these are for work tasks only and are not to be used for any other reason. A username and password will be available for you on request. Please see the daily organiser about this.
Typically the students are well-behaved but of course from time to time problems arise.
If you do encounter persistent behaviour problems that impact on the wellbeing and learning of another student then follow this simple three step plan –
Firstly issue a verbal warning clearly explaining to the student that their behaviour is unacceptable.
Secondly move the student to a different seat, and
thirdly, if the behaviour continues to deteriorate, please remove the student to an adjoining classroom for ten minutes and ensure the student has work to complete.
If the behaviour escalates you will need to seek assistance from the office.
Remember, East Preston College is a college founded on Islamic values and both staff and students are expected to demonstrate these at all times in their interactions. This is basic to all curricular objectives.
Classes are dismissed at 3.30.
Ensure the classroom is neat and tidy and all doors and windows are locked. Please turn off all computers, heaters etc. If furniture has been moved during the day please return it to its original position.
At the end of the day please complete a handover page. Tradewind have one available for you or you can simply write your own. Let the teacher know what work was covered, what needs to be followed up and how well the students worked throughout the day.
Before leaving the school please visit the office to sign out. Make sure you return the classroom key and any other resource you may have used. Please give your handover sheet to our daily organiser.
We look forward to seeing you at East Preston Islamic College and hope you enjoy your day with us.
